The best things are sometimes not in the open. This past year and 9 months of filming music videos showed me just that.
Shooting most of my videos in the same town I grew up in, you find places you've never seen before. It's astonishing. I thought I've been everywhere in town and when you explore or location scouting for a music video, you see things that been there all along but you've never processed them. You find buildings, fields, corners, alley ways that you've never noticed.
I deal with some music artists that say there's no spots to film but you have to think outside of the box. Stop looking at the everyday areas and you start seeing more. Sometimes searching a little will lead to the perfect spot for your video.
Music artists don't view the world all the time like the director. You can film in a place you have before but differently with different angles and camera lens. Most people wouldn't know. There's potential everywhere to film.
Don't let where you live, limit your thoughts. If you can't film in your town, you won't be able to in other places. In this industry, you have to be creative, be different. Sometimes you have to put in a little more work but ALWAYS in the end it's worth it. I still find new places today for music videos. It's literally endless.
I'm not saying to not venture to a new town to film because you should as well but sometimes you can't for a reason and you should be able to film a solid music video wherever you are in the world. Stop making excuses and start filming.
Some of my best videos were places we weren't allowed to film or places we asked to film at. Do what you have to for a video. The worst they can do is kick you out so don't be afraid to film. Do not limit yourself! And most importantly, have fun.
